I'm late to the nominations posts this year, but I wanted to make the dreaded nominations discussion post anyway since there's a lot of interesting things on the Nebula list this year that I think deserve special attention.

2014 was an incredibly busy year for me, so I'll only be talking about things that I've directly seen, played, or read for each category. That does mean I'll be skipping over a lot of really great longer form things, especially in the novel and drama categories.

Nebula

Short Story

I've not read every entry this year, but I wanted to particularly point people at "Jackalope Wives", by Ursula Vernon in Apex. I've been super-impressed by Ursula Vernon's writing and am really excited to see her nominated for things outside of her comics work. "A Stretch of Highway Two Lanes Wide" by Sarah Pinker in Fantasy & Science Fiction and "The Fisher Queen" by Alyssa Wong, also in F&SF struck me as more of the kind of interesting fiction I want to see published in the short story markets.

Ray Bradbury Award for Outstanding Dramatic Presentation

This category is packed with good choices this year. I particularly loved both of the Marvel films up for the award this year for capturing the spirit of their source material so well. Interstallar is the kind of more cerebral movie Science Fiction that I really love, but I think The Lego Movie surprised me the most this year for being an absolutely delightful film from a surprising direction.
